An antiretroviral drug, Tenvir helps treat HIV-1 infection in adults. It is prescribed along with other anti-HIV drugs. A single Tenvir drug contains tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, 300mg.
Tenvir helps prevent the human immunodeficiency virus or HIV from replicating within the body. The drug is available in the market under trade names such as Tenvir and Viread.
One should keep in mind Tenvir does not cure HIV. It helps stop the virus from reproducing further. Tenvir should never be taken along woth adefovir or any other medication that contains tenofovir. Tenovir is categorized as a class B drug by the FDA. Thus, it is thought it does not harm a baby in an infected woman’s womb. An infected pregnant mother should continue taking the drugs prescribed by the doctor to avoid spread of infection to her unborn child.
